Hoosier R3S04
Hoosier's R3S04 & A3S04 radials are
DOT-legal Competition tires developed for drivers to use during dry
track conditions. While Hoosier Sports Car DOT radials meet DOT
requirements, they are not suitable for highway use as the expected
miles of wear from their racing tread compounds is greatly reduced.
The R3S04 & A3S04 radials’ performance
improvements were achieved using Hoosier’s new engineering,
construction & process techniques to produce tires that provide
linear "turn-in" response, increased lateral traction & cornering
speeds, as well as a substantial improvement in consistency &
wear.
The R3S04 (Racing) tire features a
tread compound focusing on track & road racing applications, while
the A3S04 (Autocross) tire features a tread compound focusing on
autocross competition. The availability of both compounds also
allows drivers to match their tread compound’s capabilities to the
weight & horsepower of their vehicle, as well as to the track &
temperature conditions in which they will be running. Heavy
vehicles, high horsepower, demanding tracks & warm ambient
temperatures will probably require the use of R3S04 tires while
light vehicles, low horsepower, less stressful tracks & cooler
ambient temperatures may allow the use of the A3S04 tires.
The R3S04 & A3S04 tires feature a
symmetric tread design utilizing a "slick" tread surface with two
"Formula One" style circumferential tread grooves. This allows them
to be mounted on either side of the car (& later be remounted
"inside-out" to further extend their life). Beginning with a tread
depth of 4.5/32", they will not require shaving for competition,
however they will benefit from heat cycling before competition to
enhance wear & provide more consistent performance.
The R3S04 & A3S04 radials feature a
symmetric internal construction that uses nylon cord radial carcass
plies reinforced by two lightweight steel belts & a spirally
wrapped circumferential nylon cap ply under the tread. The Hoosier
R3S04 & A3S04 tires are slightly heavier than the R3S03 & A3S03
tires they replace (typical increase in weight is approximately
.5-pound on smaller sizes up to 1.5-pounds on larger sizes), &
remain the lightest of the DOT-legal competition tires.
Hoosier R3S04 & A3S04 tires feature
an attractive, graphic sidewall design with black letters &
include a "rim recess" design on all sizes. They are Z-speed rated
& available in 60-, 55-, 50-, 45-, 40, 35- & 30-series sizes for
13" to 18" wheel diameters
NOTE: While the R3S04 & A3S04 have
an inflated shape with rounded shoulders to complement camber
challenged cars, they still benefit from vehicle alignments that
offer significant negative camber.
