Motorcycle Tire Information

This section will help you underst& tire types, tire sizing, tire dimensions, service descriptions, speed ratings & UTQG (Uniform Tire Quality Grading). The differences between Super Sport, Ultra High Performance Sport, Touring/Sport Touring, & Cruiser Tires are also explained.

Also, underst& the markings on the sidewall of a tire & how to interpret the vast amount of information contained on the side of a tire. Included on the sidewall, & described here, are speed ratings, service descriptions & UTQG information.

Remember, motorcycle tires should be ridden very cautiously for the first 100 miles in order for the tread surface to be “Scuffed-In” & work properly. Immediately after new tires are mounted, sudden acceleration, maximum braking & hard cornering must be avoided. This will allow the rider to adjust to the “feel” & handling characteristics of the new tire & for the tire to be “Scuffed-In” correctly in order to achieve the optimum amount of grip.
