The Tech R is the Competition tire
member of AVON Tyres' family of Tech performance tires. Developed
& manufactured by Avon Tyres Racing* in Melksham, England, Tech R
Competition tires were developed for the drivers of competition
sports cars, coupes & sedans who participate in North American
autocross, track & road racing events in dry conditions.**
On the outside, Tech R radials feature a
high-grip racing tread compound molded into a symmetric tread design
featuring a "slick" tread surface with two circumferential tread
grooves. This maximizes their contact area with the track & allows
them to be mounted on either side of the car. Beginning with a tread
depth of 4/32", they will not require shaving for competition,
however they will benefit from heat cycling before competition to
enhance wear & provide more consistent performance.
On the inside, the Tech R radials
feature a symmetric internal construction that features twin
lightweight steel belts reinforced by spirally wrapped nylon along
with a carcass that adds an aramid- & steel-reinforced sidewall
filler to three nylon cord plies to resist deformation at high
speeds & when cornering.
Avon Tyres Tech R radials feature an
attractive, graphic sidewall design with black letters & include a
"rim recess" design on all sizes. They are Z-speed rated &
available in 60-, 55-, 50-, 45-, 40, 35-, & 30-series sizes for
13" to 18" wheel diameters.
NOTE: While the Tech R radials have
an inflated shape with rounded shoulders to complement camber
challenged cars, they still benefit from vehicle alignments that
offer significant negative camber.
*Avon Tyres Racing enjoys a worldwide
reputation for success on the track, & supplies race tires for
F.I.A., Formula 3000 & the global Formula Ford series in addition
to many racing series in the USA, including SCCA National &
Regional Club Racing. The popularity & reputation of Avon racing
tires continues to grow as more than 100 overall Championship
winners are regularly recorded each year in more than 27 countries.
**Caution: While Tech R radials meet
U.S. DOT requirements, they are not intended for highway use as the
expected miles of wear from their racing tread compounds is greatly
reduced. The Tech R is not recommended for driving in wet conditions
where there is the risk of hydroplaning. Drivers should drive
cautiously at reduced speeds in these conditions.
