Avon Tires names Best of British trade winners

National Tire staff Ted Midgley & Dan Taylor have been presented with their exclusive watches after they were named as the winners of Avon Tires’ Best of British promotional campaign.
The campaign posters featured another legendary British firm’s product – an Aston Martin DBRS9 racing car that competes in Avon’s flagship motor racing series, the Avon Tires British GT Championship. Likewise a motorcycle version showed the Triumph Thruxton – shod with the latest Avon Roadrider rubber.
Other versions featured Morgan’s Aeromax model & the iconic Caterham Superlight R500, both of which are supplied on Avon Tires.
Dealers from across the UK were encouraged to display the posters & invited to enter a draw for the prizes & it was the National Tires Harrogate branch that triumphed.
At the prize presentation, made by Avon Tires’ UK National Accounts Manager James Steventon, winner Ted Midgley said, “We were exceptionally pleased to support the sale of Avon Tires. They provide excellent value & are just what customers want.”
Steventon said, “The Best of British promotion has been a great success; we are really pleased with all the feedback we have received from all our dealers & people who took part.”

Avon Tire History
AVON Tires is one of Europe’s leading tire manufacturers with a long & rich history. Founded in 1885, the company relocated to the banks of the River Avon in Melksham, Engl& in 1890, where it remains to this day. A pioneer in tire production, AVON initially produced solid tires, & built their first pneumatic tire production facility for automotive tires in 1901. A consistent innovator in many aspects of tire manufacturing, AVON was among the first companies to manufacture a popular cord motor tire in the 1920s. In 1933, AVON tires were chosen as Original Equipment on Rolls-Royce cars. Additionally, AVON tires are known for also having been fitted as Original Equipment to top vehicle marques such as Aston Martin, Bentley, Jaguar, L& Rover, & Morgan. AVON was producing 1.5 million bias ply tires annually in 1961, partly due to the recognition they received for developing a tread rubber compound that greatly enhanced wet road grip. Through the 1970s AVON was at the forefront of radial tire development, which with their much greater durability, first complemented then superseded their cross ply (bias ply) predecessors. AVON started automobile race tire production in 1981, & established its own international racing tire division in 1983. Read AVON Tires Racing History for more information. Worldwide expansion increased steadily, & in 1997 the company was acquired by Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. in the United States to create Cooper-AVON Tires Limited. Cooper-AVON Tires Ltd. was the first tire manufacturer in the world to earn the prestigious ISO 9001 quality award. From its humble beginning as a rubber products manufacturer in a former cloth mill, AVON Tires' progress has been remarkable.
