Testing New Trends in Ultra High Performance Summer Tires

Tires tested:
BFGoodrich g-Force Super Sport A/S (Ultra High Performance All-Season)

Vehicles used:
2007 Audi A4 3.2 Quattro
2006 Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX

The g-Force Super Sport A/S is BFGoodrich's Ultra High Performance All-Season tire developed for the drivers of sports cars, sporty coupes & performance sedans who don't want to let a little bad weather spoil their driving fun. The g-Force Super Sport A/S is designed to be three tires in one to match dry, wet & wintry driving conditions to thrill even the most passionate enthusiast by providing year-round traction, including in light snow.

Because the g-Force Super Sport A/S tire's introduction to members of the media would precede the tire's availability to North American tire dealers, several members of Tire Rack team were invited to an introductory event at the Miller Motorsports Park outside Salt Lake City, UT. In addition to learning more about the g-Force Super Sport A/S tire's technology from the BFGoodrich development team, the event included the opportunity to experience the g-Force Super Sport A/S tires & make comparison runs on the Miller Motorsports Park monster kart track & road racing course.

BFGoodrich used the 0.9-mile per lap Monster Kart Track to demonstrate wet driving conditions. They equipped all-wheel drive Audi A4 3.2 Quattro sedans with 235/45R17 Original Equipment-sized tires inflated to their vehicle manufacturers' recommended cold tire inflation pressures at the beginning of the day. While the wet conditions ranged from wet to damp & drying thanks to the sun, wind & 100-degree F ambient temperatures, compared to the Dunlop SP Sport 5000 tires, the g-Force Super Sport A/S tire's advantage in steering precision, h&ling balance & overall wet grip was apparent.

They also used the 2.2-mile East Course, a highly technical track that consists of 14 corners that are well-suited to challenging dry h&ling capabilities. They equipped Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX AWD sedans with 235/45R17 Original Equipment-sized tires inflated to their vehicle manufacturers' recommended cold tire inflation pressures at the beginning of the day. Again compared to the Dunlop SP Sport 5000, the g-Force Super Sport A/S tires felt precise, comfortably balanced & predictable. The Dunlop SP Sport 5000 required more steering input & didn't feel as poised or well connected as the g-Force Super Sport A/S. In addition by the end of the day, the BFGoodrich tires showed only moderate shoulder wear - notable given the number of laps & amount of hard corning they endured during the course of the day's event.

While we didn't have the ability to quantify our Performance Test Track Drives or conduct a Real World Road Ride in Utah, Tire Rack team will run the g-Force Super Sport A/S through our normal evaluations to see how it compares to other popular Ultra High Performance All-Season tires.
